ACS International Schools are recruiting an Outdoor Learning Lead, based at our Cobham Campus. The purpose of this role will be to lead the development of outdoor learning provision across all divisions of the school. 

The role will require the individual to create exciting, educational and inspirational content for all outdoor learning provision. It provides support and oversees the planning of any outbound student trip. The role is key in ensuring that outdoor learning and off-site visits continue to develop and enrich the student experience. Teaching Lower School Science is also part of the role, so applicants must be a qualified teacher.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To lead the coordination of a coherent programme of outdoor learning ensuring progression from Forest School, Bush Craft to external expeditions such as Skerne/Duke of Edinburgh
  • Teach Lower School Science
  • Innovate and devise imaginatively varied ways of teaching forest school and other outdoor learning to inspire students
  • To act as subject matter lead in the delivery of outdoor learning, coaching and guiding others to deliver excellent age specific outdoor learning
  • Monitor student progress in the learning goals ensuring they excel in the requirements of the Global Citizens Diploma
  • Coordination of student’s journey through Duke of Edinburgh
  • Management of external Duke of Edinburgh provider
  • Develop an age-appropriate Outdoor Learning strategy in conjunction with Divisional Principals
  • Ensure the utilization of outdoor spaces through input, design and upkeep of outdoor learning programmes across school grounds
  • To provide general advice, guidance and support to staff and others regarding all school trips both UK and overseas
  • To support and oversee planning, ensuring Visits are well-managed, engaging, enjoyable, memorable and that all activities are evaluated against learning modules, are age appropriate and in keeping with educational development.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • B.Ed/Bachelor's degree + PGCE/teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching lower school (age 4-10) science
  • Previous experience as a Field craft leader, Forest school Trainer or similar learning environments
  • Experience developing teams through outdoor activities with students, staff and a wider community
  • Coursework facilitator, for example in Geography, Science, Environmental Systems and Societies or the group 4 project within the IB Diploma
  • Facilitating extra-curricular activities
  • Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, Scouting, family nature walks
  • Sustainability focus, this role will be contributing to our Green Flag applications and leading the gardening and permaculture projects
  • Winter sports, working with our ski expeditions provider.

 

Desired:

  • OEAP approved and EVC trained
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and codes of practice relating to relevant legislation
  • Either Forest School (Level 3 or 4) or Lead in Outdoor Learning Level 3.
