Job overview
We are looking for a Cover Supervisor & Pastoral Leader to support staff and students at Harris Academy Clapham, promoting a safe environment with excellent levels of behaviour so everyone is entitled to learn. You will help overcome barriers to learning using a range of techniques, including pupil counselling, focusing on the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.

We are an 11 – 16 Academy located in the heart of Clapham, a vibrant South London Borough with excellent transport links. Main Areas of Responsibility
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the consistent implementation of the Behaviour for Learning policy
- Managing the calm and purposeful movement of students around the Academy, including entry and exit
- Being part of the safeguarding team
- Working with the other pastoral leaders as a team to ensure students are monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch
- Running and supporting in detentions
- Following through any issues to do with behaviour
- Mentoring students on PSPs, including supporting in lessons as appropriate
- Attending CP/CHIN meetings and update records accordingly.
- Organising and running behaviour interventions
- Supporting with compiling files required for disciplinary panels or exclusion hearings
- Ensuring that all issues that relate to student safety such as allegations of bullying are escalated in a timely manner
- Liaising with the local community, including the Police, including dealing with incidents received by the Academy
- Supervising lessons for absent teachers, allocating explaining and overseeing work set
Qualifications & Experience
We would like to hear from you if you have:
- Qualifications to A Level standard or equivalent
- Knowledge of appropriate strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements
- Basic knowledge of SEN and other learning barriers
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Relevant experience in successfully supervising groups of children aged 11-16
- Previous experience in a school or comparable large organisation
- Understanding of a secondary school environment
- The ability to provide classroom cover – within agreed parameters – in the absence of the class teacher
- The ability to consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies
- Awareness of safeguarding systems and issues which might arise
