Reports to: The Primary EAL Coordinator and Head of School (Primary) 

Responsibilities: To provide additional language support to EAL pupils in class and small group lessons in line with individual needs

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

 Supporting Teaching & Learning

  • Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with students, families, multi-agencies, professionals and colleagues, to maximise students’ development and maintain the overall ethos and vision of the school
  • Support EAL students in class and in small group lessons based on EAL provision mapping
  • Plan for small group lessons based on existing EAL/class teacher planning and/or available programs and resources
  • Complete individual daily assessments for small group lessons to track progress and inform future planning
  • Schedule WIDA assessments of current BST EAL students at the start and end of each academic year. to track progress and inform future provision
  • Provide feedback to the students and class teacher/EAL teacher which contributes to the planning and assessment cycle to inform future learning
  • Use effective behavioural management strategies, for example, restorative justice, in order to promote positive interactions in line with BST’s policies and procedures.

 

Preparing the Learning Environment & Supporting the Curriculum

  • Update and maintain EAL databases.
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment and assist with displays that enhance and celebrate student’s language learning.
  • Effectively resource specialist areas to deliver the curriculum effectively in liaison with the class teacher/EAL teacher.
  • Support educational staff and pupils on school trips/residentials as required, by taking responsibility for a group of children and adhering to the relevant school policies and documentation.
  • To actively supervise and facilitate play, modelling positive interactions with one another during play times.

 

Training & Development

  • Actively engage in professional learning opportunities to support the school’s priorities and for their own professional development.
  • Use reflective practices through the BST Professional Review and Development (PRD) process and be proactive in working towards professional development goals.

 

Families & Safeguarding

  • Committed to working with the staff team to ensure the highest levels of safeguarding are upheld at all times. 
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding policies, practices and expectations.

 

Personal & Professional Conduct

  • Demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct, including confidentiality in line with the BST Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour within and outside school.
  • Treat students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to an Educational Assistant’s professional position.
  • Show regard for the need to safeguard students’ well-being, in accordance with statutory provisions
  • Show tolerance of and respect for the rights of others.
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes, values and behaviours within the ethos, policies and practices of BST
  • Maintain high standards in their own attendance, punctuality and appearance which are in line with school policies.
