Job overview
Primary School Teacher
If you are a positive, friendly, qualified Primary School Teacher with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, we would welcome your application to work at the International British School of Bucharest, starting Monday, August 18, 2025.
LIFE IN ROMANIA
Romania is without a doubt one of the nicest countries in Europe to live and work. Romanians are a warm, friendly people, very welcoming and well-educated, with most speaking 2 or more languages, including English.
The lifestyle in Romania is one of 4 seasons, with beautiful beaches, the last remaining mountain wilderness in Europe, a wide selection of ski fields located just 90 mins from Bucharest, beautiful old Germanic-styled towns with coble-stoned streets, a rich scattering of castles and monasteries, and more sunny days than rain. In fact, King Charles III has two houses here, saying it is one of his favourite places to visit and was the first country he visited post-coronation.
It is also centrally located within the EU, with low-cost flights, such as Ryanair and Wizzair, departing to most major cities for under 100 euros for early bookings, including return flights to the UK. You can also save a considerable portion of your monthly salary.
LIFE IN BUCHAREST
The capital city is a clean and safe city to live and work in, with a good public metro and tram system, which cost only around 20 euros for a monthly pass (students can use for free). You can walk around at night on your own safely and there is lots to do on the weekends. You have malls located throughout the city with all the western brand shops and restaurants you would expect, but at prices far below western Europe, so your money goes much further.
International teachers are paid 2-3 times the average salary, so it is relatively easy to save, and eating out is cheap, costing around 15 euros for a 2 course meal and a drink, which is why many of our international staff eat out on a regular basis.
It is also a place where you can buy your own apartment within 2 years of arriving, saving on rent, as many staff have done.
TEACHING AT IBSB
The students at IBSB are generally above the UK average in ability and well-behaved, so teaching at IBSB is a pleasure, with plenty of support from both the school and the parents - we are very fortunate to have one of the most supportive Parent Associations I have experienced to date, who for example organised a surprise morning tea for all the staff at the end of Term 1a this year to thank us for a successful first half term.
ISI INSPECTION REPORT (SEPT 2022) - 'AWARDED EXCELLENT'
The school received the highest rating in the Sept 2022 ISI BSO inspection, judged Excellent for the Quality of Education in both student learning and achievement and personal development and wellbeing. BSO Report Template (ibsb.ro)
HPL WORLD CLASS SCHOOL
We also recently completed our two-year HPL journey in June 2022 and are now the only accredited HPL World Class School in Eastern Europe, with the school campus doubling in size over the past 2 years. In every way, it is an exciting time to be joining our team, with plenty to look forward to in the next few years in the school development plan.
UCL PARTNER SCHOOL
We are also a UCL partner school offering NPQ courses to our staff and the wider community, with a number of our staff currently on the NPQH, NPQSL, and NPQLT. There is a generous CPD budget at IBSB to ensure that the school remains current, and that staff are able to progress in their careers.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
If you are a positive, friendly, qualified, and experienced primary school teacher, we would welcome your application for the next academic year 2025-26, starting with the Summer Induction Programme on Monday, August 18, with teaching starting Monday, Sept 01.
The ideal candidate for this position would be a qualified teacher with a minimum of 2 years experience teaching Key Stage 3 using the National Curriculum of England, however, a teacher with less experience and the right attitude will be considered. Experience relating to teaching EAL students would be useful as a percentage of our incoming students are EAL students, though most in school currently have achieved a high standard, well above that in the UK by the end of Year 6.
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Package includes:
-A competitive after-tax salary
-Return airfare (per two-year contract)
-Relocation allowance
-Private Medical Insurance
-Housing allowance and assistance
-Placement for dependants up to 2 (determined by availability of space)
Requirements:
-Degree and QTS
-Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience
-Knowledge and experience teaching the Curriculum of England
-English proficiency
-Clear ICPC/Police Report
-EU passport holder (preferred)
-3 positive references from previous schools cover the last 5 years of teaching
All paperwork relating to the residence permit and work visa will be organised by the school.
If you are interested in applying for this position, please forward a resume/cv with a cover letter to our Head of HR, Iulia Boboc.
Where applicants have another offer pending, second interviews can be fast-tracked.
Three references and a clear police report will be required prior to any offer being made.
IBSB has a Child Safeguarding and Recruitment Policy requiring that all applicants provide a current clear DBS/ Police Check prior to employment.
