Renaissance College Hong Kong is now accepting applications for the position of Primary Vice Principal / Learning & Teaching starting in August 2025. The position will be a full-time two-year contract renewable by mutual consent. 

Position Summary

Renaissance College is a leading educational organization. The Vice Principal (VP) supports the development of every educator and student by leading the optimisation of all learning, teaching, and wellbeing practices across the school. The Vice Principal is a pedagogical leader, an exemplary classroom practitioner, and experienced in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The Vice Principal embraces learning diversity, modelling, advocating for, and nurturing high expectations for learning amongst students across the school.

Vice Principals are an integral part of the extended leadership team at Renaissance College, working closely with the Principal, Head of Primary (HoP), other Primary Vice Principals (VPs), the Secondary Leadership team, as well as the Head of the Primary Learning Enhancement Team (LET), Head of Chinese (Primary), Year-level leaders (YLLs), teachers and Educational Assistants to live our vision, mission and Bedrock Principles.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

College-wide:

  • Influence, promote and use the College-wide vision & mission, goals, strategies, actions, policies, and procedures

Learning and teaching - curriculum:

  • Exemplify leading learning and teaching practices as reflected in children’s development and the Primary Years Programme, nurturing educators across the school to use leading teaching practices
  • Use student data to analyse, evaluate, and develop all learning and teaching practices in support of learning
  • Communicate and liaise with the Head of Primary, VPs, specialist teachers, the year-level Learning Enhancement Team (LET) teacher, and the Library Team regarding curriculum planning and implementation
  • Assist in the creation and use of the College-wide strategic plan, establishing strategic and tactical goals and priorities for the College
  • Assist with specific tasks or initiatives where appropriate e.g. Years 6-7 transition, Y1 transition, and test and residential trips administration

Staff:

  • Nurture the development of educators using mentoring or coaching methods;  
  • Induct new staff into the school;
  • Identify staffing needs across the Primary School in consultation with the HoP and VPs
  • Identify professional development needs among educators in consultation with the HoP and VPs
  • Liaise with parents as needed
  • Recommend the need for a teacher Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) to the HoP

Leadership, Management, and Administration:

  • Lead/support specialist teachers in their daily work
  • Lead the transition/admissions process of children in the early years from Kindergarten to Primary
  • Support Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) initiatives across Primary
  • Lead/support other leaders of curriculum areas in Primary
  • Continue to develop the student-teacher programme placement in Primary
  • Represent the specialist teacher agenda in middle-leadership meetings (PLT 13)
  • Lead professional development sessions across the school
  • Support the resourcing of curriculum areas
  • Coordinate events and field trips in accordance with College policies and procedures, where necessary
  • Arrange and lead Parent University sessions as needed
  • Delegate leadership responsibility amongst educators as needed
  • Identify CapEx and Technology budget items
  • Initiate meetings with cross-college leaders to facilitate curriculum articulation

Students:

  • Develop an awareness of students’ academic and wellbeing needs across the year level
  • Lead, liaise and communicate with VPs on child safeguarding and protection issues
  • Liaise with the Primary LET Leader to celebrate and act on learning diversity for all students
  • Support the writing and completion of year-level reports
  • Lead student meetings as needed
  • Keep team members apprised of important student issues

The Vice Principal is expected to carry out additional duties that may be reasonably and occasionally assigned by the HoP.

The Vice Principal is expected to have the following skills, capabilities, knowledge, and experience: 

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective leadership and collaboration skills
  • Outstanding management and organizational skills
  • A high level of motivation
  • The ability to take initiative, self-direct, and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

In-depth knowledge of:

  • Effective learning and teaching practices to support students and educators in an environment that caters to learning diversity
  • Planning, collaboration, and team-building processes
  • Research-based assessment practices for, as, and of learning
  • The Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Experience:

  • Previous senior leadership experience preferred
  • Teaching the IB-PYP required
  • As a primary practitioner

Requirements 

Minimum Typical Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Evidence of higher study 

Minimum Typical Experience: 

  • PYP experience required 
  • PYP coordinator experienced desirable 
  • Recent senior management / VP experience is desirable
