Job overview

Outwood Academy City Fields is an 11-16 academy based in the friendly cathedral city of Wakefield. The Academy was rated Good by Ofsted in March 2022. We joined the Outwood Family of Schools in 2018. Excellent teaching and the highest standards of behaviour are at the heart of everything we do, and we champion innovation in all aspects of learning. We were delighted that in its latest report, Ofsted noted ‘Outwood Academy City Fields is a school where leaders want the very best for pupils. Their motto of putting ‘students first’ is something that directs and guides leaders’ actions each day. Because leaders set such a strong example of their high ambitions for pupils, other staff mirror these aspirations’.

We know that the ingredients of a great school are an inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum, high quality teaching and learning, positive behaviours which promote engagement and great pastoral support which, when combined can create a great culture where we raise standards and transform lives. At the heart of everything we do is excellent teaching and the highest standards of behaviour. We champion innovation in all aspects of learning, while striving to develop a school-wide mindset based around mutual respect and acceptance.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher to join our Humanities Department. This is a fantastic job opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is ‘Students First’ and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim.

The City Fields Humanities Department is a supportive, relaxed and focused team of 3 historians, 3 geographers and two RS teachers. We are a mix of experienced teachers and those beginning their journey via Teach First. Our department is very well thought of within the Academy by students and staff and we achieve GCSE results that we are proud of.

Whilst being supported by the Humanities Team you will also be aided by a Subject Director who works across the Trust, along with other RS specialists in other academies. We have a culture of sharing to support your wellbeing and workload. We all want the best for our students and by sharing expertise and best practices across the Trust we can achieve this. As a team we share the view that whilst our job is often challenging, we do it because it is hard and because of the positive impact we have on our amazing students day in, day out. We are proud of the strides we have made in our curriculum for RS, with all students now sitting the WJEC Eduqas course. As an Academy we encourage the development of whole school initiatives to support all our students in becoming global citizens and have the skills they require for the future. Arranging whole school events, celebrations and trips will be actively supported, giving you a great opportunity to shape our offer to the emerging needs of the local community.

Outwood Academy City Fields is developing and growing in size each academic year and this growth has led to new ICT suites being built that we are able to use. This growth as a school will lead to enhanced career opportunities for staff looking to progress and you will be joining amazing Academy colleagues, both teaching and non teaching, who are all welcoming, helpful and kind to one another.
