The School is looking to recruit a non-resident Saturday Matron to join the Boarding Pastoral team during term time. Wellington School has Girls and Boys Boarding Houses, which play an important role within the life of the School.


Reporting to the Head of Boarding and working alongside a Housemaster & Houseparent, this role will support the Boarding Houses from 8.30am – 6.30pm every Saturday. As part of a House team, Matrons helps provide pastoral, social, moral and academic support for the pupils and maintain the rules and ethos of the House. The Matron helps create a warm and welcoming environment for both pupils, their families and other visitors and acts towards pupils as a reasonable parent would, following the principles of ‘in loco parentis’.


Matrons play an important role in building strong professional relationships with pupils, maintaining discipline and respect, alongside listening and guiding pupils where necessary. They encourage pupils and celebrate their achievements.


Matrons are also involved in ensuring the smooth running of domestic arrangements and promoting tidiness and respect for the House, in order to make it a pleasant and enjoyable home for all the pupils.


Suitable applicants will enjoy working with young people, have excellent communication and care skills and a desire to build positive relationships. Whilst previous experience would be advantageous this is not essential as training will be provided.


Post holders must be committed to safeguarding and promoting student welfare. They will be subject to an enhanced DBS and Child Protection checks. We are an equal opportunities employer.

Wellington School is a Church of England denominational, co-educational, day and boarding school in Somerset. As of the most recent inspection, there were 900 pupils on the school roll. The school’s motto is the opening of Psalm 127; ‘If God Be Not With Us, Our Labour is in Vain’. The Senior School teaches pupils between the ages of 11-18. The school also offers preparatory facilities from the ages of 3 onwards. Founded in 1837 as a boys school, Wellington has been fully independent and co-educational since 1978. The 35 acre site is a combination of traditional and more recent architecture. The school operates in both a boarding and day capacity.
