Job Title:  School Cook

Location:  Kinsale School, Holywell, CH8 9DX

Salary:    £20,000 per annum

Hours:    30 hours Per week; Monday to Friday, 8am - 2pm (Working hours can be negotiated)

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only

As part of our growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced School Cook to join our team at Kinsale School in Holywell.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic School Cook to join our friendly, dedicated team as we strive to motivate and inspire pupils with autism and a range of other complex needs to reach their full potential. No two days will be the same here at Kinsale School, so we want to appoint somebody who is solution-focused, can work at pace, and is motivated by working in an environment that supports pupils with complex needs. You will be very much part of the team at Kinsale School, and play an important role in the development of healthy habits and an enjoyment of meal-times amongst our learners. 

Whilst previous experience of working in within a school environment would be desirable, excellent personal and organisational skills are just as important. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, prepare and deliver a range of high quality, healthy meals for our pupils and staff 
  • Ensure that the costs of running the kitchen fall within budget. 
  • Ensure the kitchen is a clean and tidy environment at all times. 
  • Ensure the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned after every service. 
  • Ensure that the appropriate schedules are completed each day. 
  • Plan varied menus and order food, weekly in advance. 
  • Ensure food wastage is kept to a minimum by constantly reviewing existing stock and food requirements and ordering accordingly. 
  • Contribute towards improving the school’s Food for Life status by improving the diets of pupils and young people in order to promote healthy eating.
  • Ensure the safe storage and control of any potentially harmful materials and chemicals used within the School and ensure that such materials are appropriately marked and signposted 
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all on site at all times by implementing the School’s Health and Safety procedures.
  • Ensure the relevant people/organisations are notified of any maintenance issues / failure of kitchen equipment.

Essential Criteria

  • Catering experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to work to deadlines, and manage stock levels

Kinsale School is located in a stunning rural location, overlooking the Dee Estuary. Our school provides specialist education for up to 25 students, aged 8 – 19 having a range of complex needs including ASC and ADHD, in addition to impaired social or cognitive functioning due to early life trauma and attachment difficulties.

Our school has an inclusive and innovative approach to support teaching and learning and is currently developing its curriculum to implement the new Welsh Government’s Successful Futures initiative.
