Job overview

The Role

We are currently looking for new governors to join the governing bodies of Wootton Park School (opened in 2016) and our new school, Overstone Park Primary School (planned to open in September 2025). This is an exciting time to join our governing boards as our ambitious trust starts its journey to become a multi academy trust.

Our governors come from a range of diverse backgrounds, skills and experience but all share a common interest to deliver outstanding education for the children in our school.

Governors are essential for the effectiveness and success of the school and it is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling role.

All school Governors serve a 4 year term. They act as a ‘critical friend’, working voluntarily to strategically oversee the running of the school. Governors meet a minimum of three times a year.

About Us

Our Trust vision is to build on its existing all-through free school, Wootton Park School, to create an organisation of outstanding schools in Northampton and the surrounding areas, delivering strong academic achievement, developing strong values and promoting citizenship, community and service.

Through tried and tested teaching methods and the holistic development of each learner, we allow them to gain the confidence and skills to positively contribute to local communities and to participate in a global society. Our curriculum promotes social mobility and enhances the life chances of all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged.

Our learners are confident, happy and successful. Tolerance, courtesy, understanding and compassion are hard-wired into our ethos. While our focus is on achievement during their time with us, we will never lose sight of the fact that those in our care are beginning their journey and that we are preparing the successful adults of tomorrow for whatever path they choose.

It is an exciting time to join our Trust as we become a multi academy trust and prepare to open a second school, Overstone Park Primary School.

What We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. While previous experience in education or governance is advantageous, it is not essential. More importantly, we seek individuals who are:

-         Passionate about education and the welfare of children with special needs.

-         Committed to our values and mission.

-         Able to think strategically and work collaboratively.

-         Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making.

-         Willing to dedicate time and effort to attend meetings and contribute to the school's development.

Areas of expertise include but are not limited to: Education, Safeguarding, SEND, Finance, Estates & Buildings incl. health & Safety.

Benefits of Being a Governor

Becoming a School Governor offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a cause you care for and your local community. In return for your commitment, you will gain:

-         A sense of fulfilment from making a real difference in the lives of children

-         The pleasure of helping learners reach their potential, and receive the education, health and care they deserve

-         Opportunities for personal and professional development

-         Experience in governance and strategic leadership

-         Networking opportunities with other professionals and community leaders

-         A sense of achievement in making a difference

Our Journey...

WPS opened in 2016 with two Reception and four Year 7 classes.

In September 2022, we had our first Year 6 cohort, so are now operational in every year group. In 2020 we moved into our brand new £20 million state-of-the-art school building, allowing our primary children to learn in state of the art science labs, food room and sports hall. As an all-though school, our primary children benefit from subject specialist teaching in Spanish, PE, art and technology.

WPS offers its learners a first-rate and unique learning environment, ensuring high levels of academic achievement and personal development for all, while promoting the value of public service and building a stronger society. As an all-through (4-19) school, we believe this brings a significant number of benefits to learners and staff, and we seek staff who share this vision with us.

What we can offer you...

As you can imagine, WPS is at an exciting stage of its journey. With school growth, there is an exponential amount of potential to develop responsibilities and grow your career by shaping policy, launching initiatives and contributing to the school's desire to  achieve excellence.

Our school coaching policy promotes a supportive and encouraging work environment to all staff in achieving their own goals and professional development.

Staff achievements are openly acknowledged and encouraged.

Wootton Park School rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted

We are delighted that our school received the top grade in all five inspection categories of its first Ofsted report: overall effectiveness, leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and early years provision.

Ofsted praised the school for its outstanding leadership: “The principal, together with senior leaders and governors, leads with unapologetic ambition and an unwavering determination to secure the highest possible standards of education and well-being for pupils and staff".

Inspectors also noted that “The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is of a consistently high quality” and that “Achievement is outstanding in the early years and at key stages 1 and 3".

"Staff morale is exceptionally high" Ofsted 2019.
