Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable School Librarian to join our team, working 3.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing library resources as well as having weekly timetabled sessions with classes. This position requires a passion for literature, strong organisational skills, and the ability to engage with children of all ages and abilities.
Durlston Prep & Senior School is expanding to GCSE's with our first Year 11 cohort due to commence in September 2025. We are a very busy, thriving school and the ideal candidate should share our ethos and love of learning to help all Durlston children succeed.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Develop and maintain the library's collection by selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, and organising materials.
- Promote and develop a love for reading and literature to all children.
- Coordinate with other subject departments to help support curriculum plans.
- Take a leading role in organising the school events for World Book Day.
- Maintain accurate records of library loans, returns, and inventory management.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in library services.
Skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of children and their needs.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail for managing collections and resources efficiently.
- Proficiency in using library management systems and digital resources.
- A passion for literature and a commitment to promoting reading within the school.
- Ability to work independently
- Flexibility to adapt to changing technologies and user needs within the library setting.
