Defence Children Services (DCS) has staff working in Military establishments across the world. St John’s School is one of our 21 MOD Schools and Early Years Settings providing education for the children of Defence Personnel (service and civilian) serving overseas. It is a small but vibrant 11-18 secondary school serving the military community in British Forces Cyprus.
This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our DCS vision to Educate the Child-Support the Family-Defend the Nation.
We are seeking a dedicated Science teacher (with the ability to teach Maths up to Key Stage 4) to inspire and teach learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in the U.K, a creative approach to learning, and a passion for fostering learners' academic and personal potential.
The purpose of the job is:
- To teach Science up to Key Stage 5 (preferably with a Chemistry specialism) with the ability to teach mathematics up to Key Stage 4.
- To teach a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum and prepare Schemes of Work, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment.
- To facilitate and encourage high quality learning which provides learners with the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
- To deliver well-planned, engaging and creative lessons, ensuring that the needs of all learners are met.
- To differentiate appropriately, using approaches that enable every learner to access the learning and make excellent progress.
- To demonstrate excellent subject knowledge in all relevant areas.
- To set learners challenging learning and developmental goals, and to draw upon varied strategies, resources and technologies to support learners in achieving these goals.
- To follow school procedures for assessing, recording and reporting on pupil’s achievements and to use this information effectively to convey progress in report writing and record keeping.
- To provide pupils with regular written and oral feedback and encourage them to reflect and respond to their feedback as per policy.
- To prepare and present regular displays of learners’ work around the school.
- To take part on a residential trip.
- To participate fully in the school’s extra-curricular and school activities programme.
