Science Technician

This is an exceptional opportunity as we look for someone to join us at this incredibly exciting time in the school’s history. The governors of this highly successful and oversubscribed 11-16 Voluntary Aided RC High School are seeking to appoint a Science Technician.

We are looking for a dynamic, creative individual with ambition and drive, who is passionate about improving the lives of young people. 

The role will involve:

Preparing and making available items requested by staff i.e. apparatus, equipment, chemicals, solutions etc.

Ensuring safe storage and handling of all hazardous materials and chemicals – including poisons, radioactive sources and corrosive liquids.

Ensuring the safe handling and disposal of biohazards.

Ensuring all laboratories are stocked with essential equipment. Maintaining access for staff to the appropriate COSHH information e.g. Hazards/CLEAPSS information.

Making student teachers/graduate trainees aware of the appropriate COSHH information and other Health and Safety publications. 

To advise on the availability of chemicals and suitability for use in their experiments. 

To make non-specialised cover staff aware of the relevant risk assessments.

 The right person will have a good mix of:

·        Awareness of Health & Safety in the Workplace

·        Good Working knowledge of Science and practices within a Laboratory

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·        Be adaptable, self-motivated and well organised

·        Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as a positive approach to working effectively with all members of the school community.
