Tanglin Gippsland is the new Australian Campus of Tanglin Trust School in Singapore. As part of the school’s Centenary celebrations, the campus is being developed to enhance Tanglin’s commitment to the development of student’s academic, physical, emotional and interpersonal growth.
POSITION OVERVIEW
To achieve its mission and vision, Tanglin seeks to employ staff with the highest professional and relational skills who will actively support the school’s commitment to a culture of excellence including in high Child Safeguarding Standards.
The primary focus of Tanglin Gippsland is to deliver the Highlands Programme: a five-week residential programme that focuses on experiential learning that fosters the development of curiosity, confidence and community in Tanglin’s Year 9 students. Teachers will, however, be expected to manage and lead other groups that use the campus. These may be Tanglin groups, or other partner institutions and it is hoped that staff will be entrepreneurial in this regard as there is significant scope for development and growth.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary Teacher, with a Position of Added Responsibility (PAR) as Head of Pastoral Care, to join our dynamic team.
This is a full time and ongoing position, commencing in Term 1, 2025. Applicants must have full Australian work rights.
The Gippsland campus aligns with Tanglin Singapore’s calendar which runs on the Northern Hemisphere school year schedule. Additionally, the campus operates on a modified 7 day a week timetable, offering students mainstream subjects while, at times, utilising the great outdoors and beautiful Victorian Alps as a classroom. This will provide the opportunity to produce exciting schemes of work that bring inquiry and rigor to the fore. The curriculum is experiential in nature, requiring teachers to be brave in combining classwork with the outdoors and bringing the best out in all students because of a deliberately innovative pedagogy.
Due to the nature of the campus and its residential programme, teachers are expected to live on campus to help provide around-the-clock care and supervision of students.
Tanglin is mindful of its responsibilities as an employer, and rosters will ensure appropriate breaks, rest periods and term holidays to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. When not teaching or involved in duties or activities staff can be at home or off-site.

Structure:
Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in South East Asia. Tanglin is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is registered as an educational charity. Tanglin is a vibrant co-educational school of 2,800 students aged from 3 to 18 years, representing over 50 different nationalities. The school is split into the Infant School (3-7 years); the Junior School (7-11 years), the Senior School (11-16 years), and the Sixth Form College (16-18 years).

A well-embedded pastoral system nurtures positive relationships and promotes an ethos that both values and celebrates children as individuals while creating a strong sense of community. Drawing on available research from the field of Positive Psychology, the Lifeskills curriculum aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. Our Coordinated Wellbeing Services team – consisting of the Nursing team, Counselling team, Social Worker and Educational Psychologist – provide additional specialist support, and can advise teachers and work with students as and when required.
- Co-Curriculum
The co-curriculum programme is central to a student’s education at Tanglin. Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) play a crucial part in all staff and students’ weekly schedules, and all staff are expected to be involved with the leading and developing of co-curricular options, either in areas associated with their subject specialism or in an area in which they have experience or interest. Through The Arts, Sport, academic enrichment, clubs and societies and Outdoor Education, students’ learning is enriched and developed. The co-curriculum is supported by significant time, resource and CPD opportunities, and staff are encouraged to utilise and develop their personal passions and hobbies.
Enhanced Curriculum:
Tanglin provides the English National Curriculum with an international perspective. Tanglin's links with Singapore and Asia are increasingly woven into subject areas and key topics across the school to ensure students achieve international mindedness that will allow them to contribute to the world with confidence. Drawing on professional and dynamic staff, Tanglin aims to nurture every individual to achieve their intellectual, spiritual, cultural, social and physical goals.
Pathway Options:
As students progress through the Key Stages of the English National Curriculum, they are presented with a widening choice of subjects that are taught by a dedicated team of subject specialists. They are guided in making choices for GCSE and IGCSE courses with examinations normally taken at the end of Year 11. Students then have the opportunity to select either the A Level or IB Diploma pathway in Years 12 and 13 with this choice being unique amongst Singapore schools. Students' examination results consistently surpass Singapore and global averages, with around 95% of graduates typically receiving their first or second choice university, which are among the best in the world.
Inspections:
Tanglin is inspected every year within the British Schools Overseas (BSO) framework, recognised by Ofsted. Tanglin has been awarded ‘Outstanding’, the highest possible grade, in their latest inspections (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022).
