Job Description 

 

Purpose of this role: 


• The Sector Advisor (SA) will support the verification of the Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Health Screeners. We are currently recruiting for 3 specialisms/pathways for this qualification: Newborn Hearing Screener, Diabetic Eye Screener/Grader, and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screener.  

• Each specialism/pathway is distinct, with you as the SA covering a single specialism/pathway. 

• As the SA, you will work with the Standards Verifier to recommend whether the skills and knowledge have been assessed to national standards.  

• As an SA, you must be occupationally competent with recent occupational experience and have evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the specialism/pathway you have been appointed for.  

• This role would require remote sampling from the SA. 


Key Accountabilities: 


• Acceptance of a contract to provide services to Pearson as a Sector Advisor for Health Screeners will be regarded as an undertaking to meet the following requirements: 

• Familiarise yourself with the specification so that you can refer to the unit content and assessment criteria when carrying out sampling  

• Provide proof of relevant CPD annually for the specialism(s) you are appointed in as an SA 

• Undertake sampling of learner work to ensure that valid and reliable assessment decisions are made, and national standards are met.  

• Provide sector-specific support, advice and guidance to the Standards Verifier 

• Produce reports for Pearson and the allocated Standards Verifier on the sampling undertaken (see service-level agreement below) 

• Complete the Sector Advisor Report Form (SARF), giving details on whether the assessment decisions are correct according to assessment criteria requirements. The Sector Advisor will then send the report to the Standards Verifier to complete the verification. 

• Report back to Pearson and the Standards Verifier following sampling within agreed service-level agreements (5 working days) 

• Support centres to understand and implement identified actions through working with the Standards Verifier

Essential 

 

In order to be considered for the role, you must be occupationally competent in the pathway of Health Screening for which you will be the Sector Advisor for. The specialist units of each pathway of the qualification are listed below. 


Newborn Hearing 

 

Unit 22: The Ear and Hearing 

Unit 23: Prepare to Undertake a Newborn Hearing Screen

Unit 24: Undertake an Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) Newborn Hearing Screen 

Unit 25: Undertake an Automated Oto-Acoustic Emissions (AOAE) Newborn Hearing Screen 


Diabetic Eye 

 

Unit 17: Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology of the Eye 

Unit 18: Understanding Diabetes and Diabetic Retinopathy 

Unit 19: Prepare for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening 

Unit 20: Undertake Diabetic Retinopathy Imaging 

Unit 21: Detect Retinal Disease and Classify Diabetic Retinopathy 


Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm 

 

Unit 14: Principles of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening and Treatment 

Unit 15: Principles of Ultrasound for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening 

Unit 16: Undertake Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening 


You must also show evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the relevant field of industry. 

 

Desirable 

 

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the field of assessment and delivery of vocational qualifications. 

 

 Skills and Knowledge:  

 

 Essentials

 

• Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills 

• A good working knowledge of the specifications that comprise the area of expertise for the role 

• A customer-focused approach 

• Time management and ability to meet deadlines (fulfilling a Service Level Agreement of 5 working days) 

• Ability to develop and monitor clear action plans 

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team 

• Ability to understand the implications of decisions taken on Pearson’s behalf and not to operate outside the sphere of responsibility defined within this job description 

• Word processing and basic spreadsheet manipulation 


Requirements:  

 

• Any associate undertaking this role must: 

• Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson required software 

• Have a suitable internet connection 

• Have a personal and secure email account 

• Have a postal address in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland 

• Declare any conflicts of interest that could impact on the role 

• Have availability for a minimum of 4 days in any given year 

• Abide by the terms of conditions as stated in the contract for work
