Job overview

SEN Teaching Assistants

Join Our Warm and Friendly Team at The Holmewood School London

We are looking for dynamic, energetic, flexible, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our small, warm, and friendly team. This recruitment is due to an increase in our student numbers.

Full-Time / Part-Time Positions Available

We are primarily looking to recruit full-time Teaching Assistants but are open to exploring part-time candidates if we can achieve the required level of cover for our students.

Your Role

You will support teachers with classroom practice and assist pupils in their academic, social, and emotional learning. Committed to providing the best opportunities for our students, you will work with a rewarding but sometimes challenging group of learners, ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their full potential. This role will be based with students in Key Stage 3,4 & 5.

Locations

We have three campuses in the Finchley and Muswell Hill areas:

  • Lower School in North Finchley, conveniently located opposite Woodside Park station (Northern Line). Key Stage 2 and 3 students.
  • Upper School at a lovely campus in Muswell Hill. Key Stage 4 and 5 students.
  • A newly refurbished Creative Campus near Finchley Central, where students travel for Art, Computing, and Food Technology lessons.

The successful candidate will primarily be based at either the Lower or Upper campus but may also work across all three campuses as needed and accompany students to external places of learning.

What We Offer

  • The benefit of working to a school calendar with an average of 37 weeks per academic year.
  • An excellent professional development package.

About Us

The Holmewood School is an independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged 7 to 19, with a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our students are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our students also have a diagnosis of ADHD and/or dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted in May 2022 and have Advanced Accreditation Status from the National Autistic Society. As part of the Cavendish Group, a unique network of independent day and boarding schools, we believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our teaching. We also have strong community links and work closely with the other schools in our group.

What We’re Looking For

You must have experience working with children and a personal or professional understanding of autism. We are seeking candidates with the following essential qualities:

  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • A sense of humour
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Stamina and resilience
  • The ability to work under pressure

Interview Process - Interviews will be held in two stages. The first stage will take place online via Google Meet. The second stage will consist of a trial session at one of our campuses, where shortlisted candidates will spend time with our students and complete a short written task.

How to Apply

The closing date for applications via TES is Tuesday, 5th November 2024, at 10am.

Please apply early as we may close the advert once posts are filled. For more information, contact Alison Turner, HR Manager, at 020 8920 0660 or recruitment@thsl.org.uk, or visit our website at www.thsl.org.uk.

Additional Details

  • Full-time working hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • While primarily based at one campus, you may be required to work across all three campuses to meet student needs.
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of application. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

Safeguarding and Compliance - We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.
