This is an exciting opportunity to join Calderdale Council’s Inclusion & SEND Service and to lead on the design, delivery and review of support for children and young people (CYP) at SEND Support and those with an Education Health & Care Plan.

Working as a senior member of the Inclusion and SEND Service, the purpose of the SEND Specialist Inclusion Team (SIT) Manager role is to enable Calderdale Local Authority (LA) to:

  • Promote and sustain the inclusion of CYP with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local, mainstream schools and educational settings
  • Build capacity within educational settings to ensure that CYP with SEND have their needs identified, assessed and met as early as possible
  • Ensure a continuum of provision for CYP with SEND across the borough.
  • Develop a specialist workforce across the borough which is skilled, knowledgeable and at the forefront of outstanding SEND practice
  • Fulfil its obligations and duties as outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 legislative framework, including the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Direct line management of 4 x SEND Specialist Coordinators
  • Indirect management responsibility of a team of up to around 80 full-time equivalent staff, including teaching and non-teaching staff

We are seeking to appoint a highly committed and inspirational Team Manager with a proven track record of supporting the assessment and improvement of educational outcomes for CYP with SEND.

A Teaching Qualification with QTS and post-graduate qualification in SEND or a commitment to obtain this is essential.

An understanding of inclusive practices in schools, adaptive teaching, SEND budgets and commercialisation will be an advantage.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
