Job overview

As the Social Work Placements Lead in the Education and Social Care department, your primary responsibility will be to provide quality assured placements for our social work students. To facilitate efficient and effective administrative operations and provide essential support and training to internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure our students are ready for practice, this may involve delivering on some preparing for professional practice modules.


Responsibilities include:

  • Deal with routine enquiries from students, placement providers & Practice Educators (PE), regarding placement issues.
  • Prepare social work students for work in placement agencies in line with College guidance. Explaining placement policy & procedures including assessment strategy and acting as a focal point of information for them once they are on placement.
  • Plan and deliver sessions related to Social Work Practice and preparing for placements.
  • Communicating with students and the placement provider, as well as PEs, trainers and academic staff, confirming placement arrangements and providing them with appropriate documentation including details of all policies and procedures and assessment strategies.
  • Provide all necessary information to the Practice Assessor at the receiving organisation and during each student’s placement.
  • Assist in the development of the placement handbooks and documentation for the Pes workshops
  • Preparing information for PAP (Practice Advisory Panel), which also includes providing any student information the Panel may require.
  • Provide all administrative support for the PAP meetings and attend said meetings
  • Maintain a student interim & final report filing system
  • Distribute interim & final reports to PAP members & provide feedback to tutors.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of placement agencies and offsite practice assessors

Education & Training

  • A qualified social worker
  • A degree relevant to the field of Social Work
  • Qualified Practise Educator
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale


Experience

  • Experience in administration in a diverse organisation
  • Experience in high-level administrative roles
  • Experience of working under pressure and able to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Experience working in an HE environment is desirable but not essential
