Barnes Wallis Academy and the David Ross Education Trust are now recruiting a Sports Enrichment Officer. Help organise and grow the enrichment programme, and increase participation. This is your opportunity to join the Barnes Wallis Academy PE Department and DRET Sport Team.

About the role

This role will have responsibility for improving participation and performance within a range of sports, alongside enhancing participation and provision across the academy within enrichment before, during and after school.

The role will also work closely with the Head of PE to ensure all enrichment opportunities are promoted, delivered, reported, and organised to a high standard throughout Barnes Wallis Academy. 

This is a great opportunity to develop a career in sports development, coaching or to progress into teaching.

  • Deliver school clubs in a variety of sports, ensuring they are beneficial and engaging
  • Regularly remind students of clubs, matches and events and help organise
  • Work creatively with the Head of PE and PE department to plan and organise internal and external competitive opportunities for the Academy. Support the delivery of festivals, competitions and summer schools for Academy pupils, and feeder school pupils.
  • Help to identify and support talented individuals and shape pathways and opportunities for them to participate, compete and excel in elite sport.
  • Be a champion for Sports Enrichment within the academy – constantly promote and market sporting opportunities to students through traditional and social media channels.
  • Ensure attendance at fixtures, trips and events is organised and planned well ahead of time, ensuring the school, parents and pupils are all aware


37 hours a week, 39 weeks per year, Fixed Term to 31st August 2025

Sport is an integral part of the academy and we try to offer the widest variety possible to our students.

The sports programme varies over the year according to season, but in addition to regular PE in the curriculum we have our enrichment programme which includes activities suitable for all ages, abilities and interests.

The Sports Enrichment Programme allows students to participate in an array of sports and experiences. Specialist coaches are regularly brought in for these sports in order to give the students the best possible experience.

We also run a vast array of house competitions throughout the year for all students to be involved in.

The Barnes Wallis Academy is a mixed, mainstream, state secondary school located in Tattershall, Lincolnshire.  It caters to students aged 11 to 16 and has a growing roll with approximately 470 students currently. 

The Barnes Wallis Academy was founded in 1954 and was previously named Gartree Community School.  It began as a foundation school administered by Lincolnshire County Council and converted to academy status on 1st September 2014.  The school is now sponsored by the David Ross Education Trust but continues to coordinate with Lincolnshire County Councils for admissions.  In 2017 the Academy gained a “good” rating from Ofsted with personal development, behaviour and welfare being graded outstanding.

The Barnes Wallis Academy aims to provide a curriculum that excites learners and meets their intellectual needs.  Teachers strive to produce students who are resilient, confident and healthy, with the ability and desire to make the world a better place.  Every student is encouraged to positively contribute to the wider community.

English, maths and science are emphasised in the curriculum.  Humanities, arts, languages, technology and vocational qualifications are also available.  Vocational qualifications include BTEC Sport, BTEC Child’s Play, Learning and Development and BTEC Performing Arts. The curriculum also addresses global issues, the environment and economic awareness.
