Job overview

Trinity Academy Grammar

Teacher of Alternative Provision

MPR/UPR

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to work with and make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable learners in Calderdale.  Alternative Provision across the borough is at capacity; this has contributed to a significant increase in children being permanently excluded from Calderdale schools.  We are determined to address this situation and to support these young people in succeeding in their education.

In the past eighteen months we are proud to have opened our off-site Alternative Provision, Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, in the centre of Sowerby Bridge.  We currently have 15 students on roll and work closely with both our teaching staff at Trinity Academy Grammar, and a series of external agencies and support networks to ensure we meet the academic and pastoral needs of each student.

As we continue to develop the academic and pastoral systems in place at Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, we are looking to expand our team of dedicated staff.  We are therefore looking for someone with a passion for making the difference to the lives of young people, and we are hoping to find the right person to be part of this team leading in this development.  Our aim is to address the lack of Alternative Provision available to 11–16-year-olds in the local area, through a high quality, bespoke educational support offer.  We are committed to this project and have the necessary resources in place to support delivery.

We are therefore ready to employ a full-time teacher at Trinity Academy Grammar, working at Carlton Mill to support the excellent academic work already taking place there.  At Key Stage 3 we are committed to teaching all national curriculum subjects within our 14-week lesson series.  At Key Stage 4, our students work towards 8 qualifications, including maths, English and triple science.  We are committed to finding the right candidate for the role and are open to applications from teachers from a variety of specialisms, however a maths or English specialist is desirable.

Since becoming part of the Trinity Multi-Academy Trust, Trinity Academy Grammar has had a plethora of successes.  In February 2023 Ofsted graded the academy as good with outstanding features in leadership and personal development.  This followed by being awarded the World Class School Quality mark in 2021.  These transformational changes mean that it is an exciting time to join the academy, we are incredibly proud of our successes, and we are looking for the best people to work alongside our already committed team to continue our journey.

GCSE results are a validation of the work we have undertaken to transform the academy and the results mean the academy is now recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country.  As a result, this is a truly exciting time for us.  We are determined to build on our success, increasing student numbers and constantly striving to better serve our students.

Our vision is to be the most transformational academy in England.  If you would like to be part of our journey we look forward to hearing from you.

The Trinity MAT were first approached to work with the then Sowerby Bridge High School, when it had been graded as inadequate by Ofsted and had been ranked in the bottom 15% of all schools nationally.

After joining the MAT in 2018 the progress made has been outstanding. The academy has improved its Progress 8 outcome by 0.92 and the performance puts us comfortably in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country.

In September 2021 we will be adopting the new name of Trinity Academy Grammar to better communicate our identity, high standards and aspirations for our students. We have chosen a name which truly reflects our grammar school heritage, and to better showcase our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as we continue to build on this legacy through our outstanding achievements and passion to help our students reach their full potential.

It is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Grammar.  We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Teaching School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. Comprehensive pastoral systems are embedded to ensure the behaviour of students is outstanding and they are happy and supported in their learning.

As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
