West Island School is currently seeking to appoint a Teacher of Chemistry to start in August 2025 on a full-time, 2-year renewable contract by mutual agreement.
Responsibilities
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and effective Chemistry lessons across Years 7-13, including iGCSE and IB Standard and Higher Level.
- Collaborate with the Head of Chemistry and a team of 14 science teachers to develop innovative teaching units.
- Utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement.
Pastoral Care:
- Serve as a tutor for a group of approximately 15 students, supporting their holistic development through pastoral work.
Extra-Curricular Contributions:
- Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities, either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.
Expectations:
- Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning within the teaching team.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.

Requirements
Educational Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent.
- Experience teaching Chemistry across the full age and ability range up to and including Year 13 (IB Higher or equivalent).
- Previous full-time teaching experience of at least two years.

- Commitment to inclusion and fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Proven experience leading or contributing to extra-curricular programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in developing curriculum and pedagogy.
