Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School is seeking to employ a Computer Science teacher to join our outstanding Design Faculty, and enhance our provision further. This is an excellent opportunity to join a hard-working and ambitious team, who aim to provide all students with access to outstanding creative opportunities across a range of subjects. Computer science is a popular option at KS4 and KS5 with over 100 students currently studying GCSE and over 30 studying A-Level.

Our students are keen to learn and challenge themselves, with many going on to computer science or related degree courses, or graduate apprenticeships upon leaving school.

The successful candidate will be able to deliver Computer Science lessons across the curriculum. You will have a high level of technical knowledge and be able to teach at all key stages. This should include detailed practical experience of at least one high level programming language. You will be flexible, positive in your approach, and able to work as part of a dynamic team. You will be willing to participate fully in a busy and successful school.

Applicants will have the opportunity to work alongside outstanding practitioners in an environment which fosters high achievement and high standards.

We can offer you:

·        an outstanding school full of students who are committed to learning.

·        a welcoming team committed to staff well-being and professional development.

·        a vibrant community in which staff and students thrive through a commitment to academic study, a passion for creative arts, a drive for sporting endeavour and a devotion to championing personal development.

We would like you to:

·        fully commit to our Vision, Mission and Values (see above and below)

·        fully commit to the safeguarding of all students and to inclusion

·        have high expectations of yourself, and our students.

·        be committed to improving the life chances of young people from diverse backgrounds.

·        be willing to commit to life beyond the academic curriculum.

·        Have the ability to teach up to and including A-level (OCR specification)

·        To assist in the delivery of the co-curricular programme by running computing clubs and to promote participation in national competitions such as the Bebras Challenge, the Oxford Computing Challenge and the British Informatics Olympiad.

·        To help promote responsible use of computing technology for all students

We encourage applications from those candidates with ‘protected characteristics’ as set out in the Equalities Act 2010. We are committed to developing a workforce that is representative of the communities in which we work.

The Trust operates rigorous ‘safer recruitment’ practices, and the successful candidates will be required to undertake a criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the specified deadline if a suitable candidate is found.

We are a co-educational selective school in the centre of Aylesbury.  Our roll is currently 1230, including a sixth form of 350. Between forty and sixty sixth formers  join us from other schools in the area. We serve a very wide area – most of North Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

Our facilities and examination results have improved significantly in recent years. Almost all our students go to university when they leave us – many to competitive universities including a handful to Oxford and Cambridge.

Parents regularly tell us that we do an excellent job of turning out well-rounded young adults who are prepared to make a great success of their adult lives. Our relationships are important to us – because we know that our students will learn better when they are feeling good about themselves.

Historically we have had specialisms in performing arts, science and leadership. All have left their legacy in our culture.
