Job overview
South Hampstead High School (SHHS) is looking for a passionate and capable part-time teacher to join our busy and successful Design and Engineering department to cover a period of maternity leave.
As a Teacher of Design and Technology, you will plan, prepare and deliver engaging and stimulating DT lessons to our highly motivated and talented pupils from Year 7 to 13. You will also be expected to organise and participate in extra-curricular activities.
We are seeking a highly motivated and well qualified individual, with excellent subject knowledge and good practical ICT skills. You will ideally possess appropriate practical and technical skills training and H&S DT certification in order to use all the workshop equipment (training can be organised for the above H&S certificates if required). We also welcome applications from ECTs and those looking to begin a career in teaching.
The Design & Technology Department
The department is situated in a modern, purpose-built school, with a workstation for each teacher. The multi-use studio is fully computerised with widescreen PCs, an interactive whiteboard and an A2 laser cutter. This room also houses three 3D printers as well as a small-scale manufacturing area.
The Textile studio, shared with the art department, contains a Digital Rowland Cutter, a sublimation printer, and a heat press. Finally, the DE workshop is used mainly for 3D practical assignments using wood, plastics, and limited metal work. It comprises a general work area with machinery and workbenches, a studio area for designing and an additional laser cutter.
