Teacher of Design, Specialise in Food Technology (Starting Aug 2025) - Island School

Island School is looking to appoint a full-time Teacher of Design Technology specialising in Food Technology to start in August 2025 at our recently relocated new campus located at Mid-levels, Hong Kong. 

Island School is a highly successful IB secondary school located in the heart of Hong Kong. Over 1300 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, and IB programs. 

This person will be responsible for delivering engaging and innovative lessons in food technology while also teaching various subjects across the technology faculty, including design technology. Your role will involve fostering creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills in students, preparing them for real-world applications in technology and design.

Responsibilities 

• Teach a range of topics related to Food Technology including nutrition, hospitality and cooking techniques 
• Teach is the wider department of Design Technology
• Provide constructive feedback on student work assessment for improvement strategies
• Supervise and facilitate hands-on food and design technology sessions including preparation and practice work to develop students’ essential skills
• Collaborate with other departments to extend learning opportunities
• Manage, organise and maintain the Food Technology room and technicians
• Organise and lead extracurricular activities to engage students in a variety of activities
• Stay updated with the latest developments in design, food technology and education

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or
• Bachelor’s Degree in any subject and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or equivalent
• Proven experience in teaching at the secondary level within a recognized educational organization, preferably within an IB school setting
• Strong understanding of current pedagogy, with excellent practice exemplified in own teaching
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team
• Proficient and experienced in utilizing data analysis and learning technologies
• Commitment to contribute to the extra-curricular activities of the school
• Commitment to fostering an active and creative learning environment
• Commitment to professional development and collaboration across the school
