Job overview

A rare opportunity to teach English in the home of Charles Dickens.

Gad’s Hill School, a Co-Educational Day School for pupils aged 3 - 16, is looking to appoint an outstanding teacher from January 2025, to join our Upper School English Department for the duration of a maternity cover. Our close-knit team works with small classes, delivering English Language and English Literature to GCSE level, drawing inspiration and well-being from the beautiful, leafy setting in the grounds of Gad’s Hill Place, the home of Charles Dickens from 1856 – 1870.

English in the Upper School is currently taught by three teachers. English Language and English Literature studies are compulsory at Key Stage 4 and we currently follow the WJEC Eduqas GCSE specification. In 2024 the department achieved a 94% GCSE pass rate in English Language and 97% pass rate in Literature.

Full details of responsibilities can be found within the job description but, in summary, the successful candidate will provide effective teaching, as part of an efficient and collaborative team, so that pupils learn and make good progress in English.
