‘A GOOD SCHOOL – OFSTED 2016 & 2021’

High Tunstall College of Science is seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Geography for September 2025 or sooner, to ensure all of our young people are able to achieve their potential in the subject. This post would also be suitable for ECT’s.

The focus of learning in the World Affairs Faculty is the study of people, their relationships and interactions, in terms of time, place, belief and environment. We aim to encourage and foster an understanding of students’ place in the world. World Affairs is taught as three distinct subject disciplines with cross curricular themes developed where possible at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Through promoting a common approach and the specific knowledge, understanding and skills of Citizenship, Philosophy and Ethics, Geography and History we hope to achieve these aims.

We teach the AQA specification for GCSE Geography and our KS3 Geography curriculum is designed to give students a strong foundation for this should they chose to continue the subject as part of their options. We currently have 6 classes in Y10 and 4 classes in Y11. We have also run two residential visits to Iceland since 2023 and another is planned for 2026.

We intend for students to enjoy and embrace learning in the World Affairs Faculty, to reach their potential and to thrive as independent learners through a varied yet challenging curriculum utilising the expertise of supportive teachers for individual student needs

Supporting documents and how to apply for this post are available on the College website: www.htcs.org.uk/vacancies via the Face-Ed link.

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to equality of opportunity. An enhanced DBS will be required.

Closing date: Monday 20th January 2025, 12 noon.

The College

We are very proud of what we have achieved. We are the school of choice in Hartlepool, with a waiting list in all Key Stage 3 year groups and staffed by well qualified, supportive members of “Team Tunstall”.

Our new £18m, state-of-the-art College building opened in November 2019 meaning we now have the facilities to ensure we get the outcomes for young people that they desire. As a College we were first rated Good by Ofsted in June 2016, which was reconfirmed in their section 8 visit in July 2021. We are very proud to be recognised in this way.
