Job overview
The successful candidate will provide an outstanding learning experience for students, allowing them to fulfil their potential through the provision of excellent teaching, support and guidance.
All teachers are leaders of learning and are committed to delivering the school’s vision and the high ambitions for the school’s future. Their proactive support leads to sustained improvements and raised standards across the organisation, as a member of the History Department and tutor teams. They are accountable for specific identified and agreed operational functions within the teams to which they belong and which form part of their day to day work.
You will have the opportunity to lead ensembles and devise exceptional programmes for students through our many extra-curricular activities.
The History Department currently has eight history specialists. History is taught throughout the school, from Key Stage 3 to A Level. Both GCSE and A Level History are very popular option subjects. The department offers a two-year GCSE and follows the AQA specification. Students are equipped with a range of skills to meet the demands of the new specifications at Key Stage 3, which helps support the transition to the GCSE.
Retention to A Level study is also incredibly high, and outcomes at Key Stage 5 are outstanding. History students at A Level average a B+. At Key Stage 5, the AQA specification has been selected for its breadth, and sees our students cover Tudor England 1485-1603 and Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918–1945. The NEA (coursework) is focused on the fall of Tsardom and the causes of the Russian revolution, and is very popular amongst our students.
Application Closing Date: Monday 4 November 2024, 9AM
Shortlist Interview Date: Tuesday 12 November 2024
Early applications are advised as the School reserves the right to appoint at any stage during the application process.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post. As this role involves 'regulated activity' with children the successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure application. Employment will be conditional upon the College being satisfied with the result of the Enhanced DBS check and the outcome of all other checks.
The School will also carry out a check of the Children's Barred List on the successful applicant. Applicants should be aware that it is unlawful for the School to employ anyone to work with children if they are barred from doing so, and it is a criminal offence for a person to apply to work with children if they are barred from doing so.
This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
