Job overview

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Mathematics who shares our commitment to educational excellence. You must provide high quality teaching, effective use of resources and high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.

In Key Stage Three all students follow the national curriculum; Year 7 have three hours per week and Year 8 and 9 study mathematics for four hours per week. At Key Stage Four students follow the Edexcel specification and have seven hours over the two-week timetable.

Our main priorities are to maintain achievement, enhance the curriculum and support our pupils to reach their true potential. You will have the opportunity to teach highly motivated pupils in a school with a national reputation for academic excellence and where there is a wide range of extracurricular activities in which you can get involved. We were used by HMI as a good practice example in Maths and our 2019 SIAMS inspection judged us to be excellent. We are oversubscribed and typically last year saw 600+ applications for our 210 places.

We have a very distinctive ethos; our motto of “faith + nurture + service” is central to our work, as we aim to keep God at the centre of all we do. This post presents a wonderful opportunity for a talented, passionate and committed teacher. You would be joining our experienced Mathematics department at a very exciting time for all associated with the school; the successful candidate will receive the wholehearted support of a thriving governing body and a highly dedicated staff team. Further support will be received through our excellent working partnerships with Blackburn Diocese and Lancashire County Council.

Application forms and further details can be downloaded from the school’s website: www.archbishoptemple.com Archbishop Temple Church of England High School is committed to safer recruitment and CVs will not, therefore, be accepted.

Electronic applications are fully acceptable and these should be emailed to head@archbishoptemple.com marked for the attention of Mrs Simpson. We hope you will consider joining our team and look forward to receiving your application.

Closing date for applications: Midday on Wednesday 9th October 2024.

Interviews: Tuesday 29th October 2024.

The position is subject to satisfactory DBS checks and excellent employment references.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

About Archbishop Temple Church of England High School

Archbishop Temple Church of England High School is a high achieving, non-selective school. We are located in Preston, Lancashire, and have around 780 pupils aged 11-16 on roll. Our curriculum centres on traditional academic subjects including PE, technology subjects and creative arts subjects which we value.  We expect good behaviour and hard work from our pupils, and although we are unashamedly academic, we are here for all our pupils - we are an inclusive and welcoming school.  Children with special needs do conspicuously well with us, and are our greatest success stories.

We are very proud of the many opportunities we offer to our young people.  Our sports offer is superb and our music provision is amazing.

We are a Church of England school.  We acknowledge God through regular acts of worship, we employ a full time Chaplain who is part of the pastoral support we offer our children and staff.  Our faith is worked out in the way we treat people.  We deliberately invest very heavily in having a large and very experienced pastoral team.  Our motto of “faith, nurture, service” has nurturing young people at its heart.  Making sure children are cared for, safe and happy is critically important to us.  We have very few exclusions from school, and give our children as many chances as they need, because we are a place of faith!  One of the things we like about ourselves is that we are a relatively small secondary school.  That means that every child will be taught by every teacher during their time with us – no-one is anonymous, everyone knows everyone’s name.

All of this combines to make us a place of achievement.  Every year around 85% of our children leave us with five or more good GCSEs, including English and Maths.  We are a national teaching school.
