Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a full time Teacher of MFL who is able to teach German to A-Level and either Spanish or French to at least Key Stage 3 in our thriving Languages Faculty.
The Languages Faculty at Ibstock includes French, Spanish, German, Mandarin and Classics. There are typically one to two classes of German at IGCSE, three to four classes of Spanish and three to four classes of French. Numbers at A-Level remain strong across German, French and Spanish and Ibstonians regularly go on to study Languages at university.
We have a strong record of excellent examination outcomes at both IGCSE and A-Level and are an experienced, friendly and collegiate Languages Faculty of sixteen teachers and Foreign Language Assistants across all of the subjects offered. The German Department provides a Year 8 Christmas markets trip to Vienna and a biennial trip to Munich for Year 9 and 10, while the Spanish Department offers an annual trip to pupils in the form of a host family stay in Salamanca as well as a Year 9 trip to Valencia. For French, Year 9 and 10 trips to Rouen take place biennially, as well as a Sixth Form trip to a French-speaking city such as Brussels or Paris.
We also offer a wide range of co-curricular experiences within school such as taking part in, and hosting, debating competitions against other schools, day trips to study German and Spanish cinema at the BFI, cookery sessions carried out in the target language and competitions such as Translation and Spelling Bees.
