Job overview

Runshaw College is one of the most successful colleges in the country, renowned locally and nationally for our outstanding results, a friendly and supportive culture, and a focus on putting the student at the heart of all we do.

We value our staff and students highly, and invest heavily in their development, support and wellbeing. Situated in Leyland, Lancashire, the College is near the M6, M61 and M65 and within commuting distance of Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District.

The School of Media, Music and Performing Arts currently offers A levels in Music, Music Technology, Dance, Drama and Theatre Studies, Media Studies and Film Studies, as well as Vocational Courses across Music, Media and Performing Arts. There is a collaborative and supportive environment in the School. Staff are friendly, professional and hard working. We share dedicated workrooms in the Eskdale building and use a small but very well-equipped theatre in the heart of the college for our public performances as well as for a teaching space. The School comprises over 40 staff, divided into 10 Curriculum Improvement Teams (CITs).

The A level Music provision is amongst the largest in the North West with a tradition of strong results and a reputation for high quality concerts. Complemented by A level Music Technology and the new Advanced Musicianship Programme (UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music and Music Production), students in Music are prepared thoroughly for progress to the most prestigious Music schools in the UK and beyond. We have excellent links with conservatoires, especially the RNCM and Leeds Conservatoire.

Our Music Technology course is also hugely successful, with a track record of outstanding results and student progression to prestigious destinations such as Tonmeister (Surrey) and LIPA. The department is well-resourced with a professional standard recording studio consisting of two live rooms and a control room running Pro Tools alongside a well-stocked microphone cabinet and high-quality instruments. In addition, there is a music technology Mac suite equipped with the latest Pro Tools software, Ableton Live, MIDI Keyboards and Audio interfaces.

Music enrichment is wide-ranging and a huge breadth of ensembles operates weekly, providing a wealth of opportunity for our Music students to develop their skills in a range of settings. All A Level Music students receive free 1:1 instrumental tuition in their chosen instrument. The Head of Music has oversight of the work of the peripatetic teachers who provide these lessons and also delivers higher level ABRSM theory classes to those who need them.

You should have successful teaching experience in A level Music and/or Music Technology and/or Level 3 Vocational Music with a specialism in Music Technology in Performance and experience of live sound, demonstrating excellent outcomes.
