Job overview
Brighton College Vietnam is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Whole School Music Teacher to join our dynamic Performing Arts department.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Performing Arts Department is a dynamic, supportive, and creative team, passionate about fostering a love for music and the arts. We believe in teaching music holistically, where creativity, technique, and expression come together to inspire students. Our approach goes beyond simply learning notes and rhythms; we aim to deepen students' understanding of music theory, performance, and the transformative power of the arts. The department values the role of music in students' lives, encouraging them to develop their individual talents while also learning the collaborative nature of performance.
We are dedicated to inspiring and preparing pupils for future study and careers in both the performing arts, whether that’s in music, theatre, dance, or related fields, or a completely different pathway. We foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, where students feel confident to explore, create, and take artistic risks. Innovative teaching methods, including mastery approaches, are embraced, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to develop their skills at their own pace.
The department is exceptionally well-resourced, providing a wealth of tools to support and enhance student learning. Each classroom is equipped with a variety of instruments and resources that support both practical and theoretical lessons. In addition to these, we offer a dedicated music recital room, a state-of-the-art digital music suite, a fully equipped recording studio, and a well-resourced prep music room. In addition to this is a 600-seat theatre and 50-seat cinema. These specialist spaces enable students to explore their musical creativity, experiment with technology, and refine their skills in a professional setting. This diverse and inspiring environment ensures that students not only receive high-quality instruction but also have the opportunity to thrive creatively and academically.
ROLE SPECIFICATION
The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a love of music across all year groups and be able to deliver high-quality music education to students at both Primary and Secondary levels, with the potential to teach up to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Music course. The teacher will play a key role in nurturing musical talent, enhancing the music curriculum, and contributing to the growth of the school’s vibrant performing arts culture. Additionally, the role will include leading school concerts and serving as the Musical Director for school musicals, ensuring an engaging and inspiring experience for all students involved.
The academic success of Brighton College Vietnam is due to excellent, innovative and well-planned teaching. We are looking for individuals who foster a passion for learning and who can demonstrate an ability, and genuine desire, to develop pupils to their fullest potential. The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced practitioner with a proven track record of effective teaching, having obtained excellent public examination results with previous classes.
Some members of our teaching staff have pursued different career paths and have made the move to teaching at a later point. We view this diversity as a strength. We seek candidates with a demonstrable ability to thrive in an intellectually invigorating environment. The ability to inspire children is key, as is a willingness to support the ambition and values of the school and to be involved in the breadth of College life. Successful candidates will be self-reliant and adaptable, with high levels of initiative. Candidates should have a strong academic record, including a good degree in a relevant subject.
