Teacher of Psychology, Health & Social Care and Sociology 

Full Time - Fixed Term – Maternity Cover 

1st January 2025 to 31st August 2025

MPS / UPS (Suitable for ECTs) ECT applicants would be subject to a fixed term contract.

SM6 is a thriving Sixth Form College with rapidly increasing student numbers. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher, ideally with specialisms in Psychology and or Sociology and or Health and Social Care, to work within our ever expanding Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Candidates should be committed to achieving high standards and be able to demonstrate excellent practice in teaching and learning. The successful candidate will join a thriving Health and Social Sciences Faculty which consists of Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Law, and Health & Social Care.  

The implementation of our new and exciting whole school Digital Literacy programme means that it is essential that you are ICT literate and competent in using a variety of software packages. 

St Mary’s College remains ranked in the top non-selective state schools in the country for student progress. We are consistently rated in the top 10% of providers nationally (the top possible band of the ALPS performance system which evaluates post 16 provision) across a range of indicators including for ‘Quality & Breadth’. We are the number one ranked local state funded provider for Post-16. At Post-16 our ‘value added’ and ‘points per entry’ across a range of qualifications are all well above national averages. We are also proud of results achievements: 

·        99.54% A Level pass rate across all qualifications 

·        60.4% of all A Level entries in 2024 achieved A*-B 

·        72.6% of all Applied/Tech qualifications in 2024 achieved A*-B 

In our most recent OFSTED inspection (October 2023), St Mary’s College was judged as OUTSTANDING in all areas, with the inspectors stating: ‘St Mary’s College is a highly ambitious school,’ with this ambition evident, ‘in all areas of the curriculum’

St Mary’s College was awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark in 2017 which was redesignated in 2023 in perpetuity.

St Mary’s College believes every student has the right to a full and exciting education. The school curriculum is rooted in the faith, practice and moral teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

St Mary’s College's sporting achievements have set it apart from other schools and its facilities have helped many pupils get involved with sports. Various extracurricular activities are also offered to pupils, from Budding Entrepreneur club to Backstage club. St Mary’s status as an International School has helped it foster a cultural and community feel. From the Green Generation project with Slovenia to an ICT project with Kenya and Nigeria, international schemes help to teach pupils about other cultures.
