Job overview

St Andrew’s is looking to appoint an outstanding Science specialist, who is passionate about teaching science. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is an enthusiastic professional, and who also works well in a team.

St Andrew’s is a flourishing, forward thinking co-educational IAPS prep school preparing its 325+ pupils for a range of senior schools, both locally and nationally. A number of children win scholarships to their senior schools at 13+, as they move on to the likes of Abingdon, Bradfield College, St Edward’s, Pangbourne, Downe House, Marlborough, The Oratory and Radley College.

The post involves teaching Years 3 – 8, preparing pupils for a range of different senior school assessment, which include PSB (Pre-Senior Baccalaureate) and 13+ scholarship. It would be advantageous if the post holder were able to offer extra-curricular and/or the ability to coach games.

In addition, St Andrew’s is also a wonderful place to work, alongside a staff body who take their work seriously, but are less serious about themselves. The successful candidate can expect considerable employee benefits, including an excellent salary, a generous pension and a School fee remission scheme for eligible staff.

St. Andrew’s was founded in 1934 and became a charitable trust administered by a board of governors in 1961. Since 1968 the school has been fully co-educational. The estate extends to 54 acres in magnificent Berkshire countryside between the villages of Pangbourne and Bradfield.

In recent years, the number of pupils has been steady at approximately 290, which is the currently intended maximum. Whilst it is predominantly a day school, ‘flexi-boarding’ operates and many children use this during their time at the school. The aim of the school is to provide the best possible broad-based education for children aged 3 to13. Pupils leave with an impressive number of scholarships. This year, seventeen of our twenty-three sixth form (Year 8) leavers have won awards, including academic, music, art and sports.
