Job overview

We are looking for a full or part time, committed and enthusiastic teacher of science to join a large and well-resourced department with excellent results at all levels. The successful candidate will be required to teach all science disciplines at KS3 and physics at KS4. An ability to teach physics to KS5 would also be desirable.  This role is suitable for an ECT and we would welcome applications from current trainee teachers.

We wish to appoint a colleague who: 

  • Is an outstanding teacher of science with the potential to teach physics at GCSE and A Level
  • Has the flair, creativity and ability to deliver outstanding outcomes for all students
  • Is eager to be a part of a very successful and hard-working department

The Piggott School science department:

  • Red ALPS for all GCSE science subjects including ALPS 2 for combined science – 2024
  • Achieved (100%) 6+ in biology, (100%) 5+ chemistry and (100%) 6+ physics at GCSE – 2024
  • Achieved (73%) 4+ in combined science at GCSE - 2024
  • Achieved (75%) A*-C in A Level biology – 2024
  • Achieved (87%) A*-C in A Level chemistry – 2024
  • Achieved (65%) A*-C in A Level physics – 2024

Reducing teacher workload and promoting wellbeing for all remains a priority at The Piggott School. Our vision and values, including love and compassion, permeate all aspects of school life. The school is a mixed all-through Church of England Academy with 1884 on roll near Twyford, between Maidenhead and Reading.

About The Piggott School

Thank you for your interest in joining our community at The Piggott School. We are an extremely successful, oversubscribed, and happy co-educational academy. Our senior school site is on the outskirts of Wargrave (near Twyford) and our primary school site is in the village of Charvil.

The Piggott School was established in 1939 and, together with our primary site at Charvil, we are an all-through 4-18, mixed, comprehensive school with a higher-than-average ability intake. The Piggott School senior site has 1620 students and 175 staff.

Our mission is to be a school which inspires and encourages the highest achievement for each and every child. I believe that our school provides the correct balance and blend of academic challenge, personal care and enrichment that fosters the holistic development of every student.

We are extremely proud of our results, both at GCSE and A level/Level 3 learning. The results achieved in Summer 2023 reflect the hard work and commitment of the students and staff in our school.

GCSE :  Progress 8 score of +0.8

92 % of pupils passed English Language and 93% of pupils passed Mathematics.

6 subjects achieved 100% pass rate and a further 8 subjects achieved a 95% or higher pass rate.

A level : 34% of all entries were A*- A

63% of all entries were A*-B

84% of all entries were A*-C

Average grade of a B+
