Our Roman Catholic, Salesian school, in the heart of Battersea, strives to ensure that all its young people are given the opportunity and support they need to achieve their best, fulfil their true potential and go out into the world confident and ready to ‘earn their own bread’.

The Governors are seeking to recruit an able, highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Teaching Assistant who will be an integral part of the school’s dedicated Music team and whose main responsibility will be to focus on preparing practical lessons for students, under the direction of the teacher. You must also  must be able to provide excellent support in class, both with individual students and small groups.

Our mission is based around ‘without confidence and love, there can be no true education’ and we are therefore looking for candidates who are committed to securing high standards and raising academic attainment for all students.

As a Teaching Assistant – Music, you will:

  • ideally have previous experience of supporting secondary aged students
  • have a strong interest in a range of music activities
  • be able to show good literacy and numeracy skills
  • have excellent communication skills
  • be committed and reliable
  • have a calm, patient and empathetic nature

We also look forward to receiving applications from those with good interpersonal skills and experience in working in creative departments in a school environment.

Our school is committed to continual professional development, which makes this a great opportunity to further develop your skills as the school offers a programme of regular training including access to NVQ qualification for Teaching Assistants.

Early applications are welcome and we reserve the right to appoint before the closing date if we find a suitable candidate.

St John Bosco College is located in the heart of Battersea a short distance from Clapham Junction and Battersea Bridge.  We are an 'outstanding' Catholic School (Section 48 inspection June 2019) rated were 'good' by Ofsted in our most recent inspection (October 2022).

At St John Bosco College we believe that there should be no limit on what our pupils can achieve and we expect everyone who joins us to aim high and always do their best. With a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent teaching, a modern purpose-built school and a caring, nurturing ethos; we provide an excellent environment where all of our pupils can reach their full potential.

“Saint John Bosco is a Catholic college, but admits pupils from a wide range of faiths and cultures and these differences are embraced and celebrated” Ofsted

We want our pupils to work hard but also enjoy life in school.  We provide many enrichment activities; sporting, work experience, cultural and charitable; for our pupils to learn and grow beyond the confines of the classroom.  We believe that these opportunities enable our pupils to grow and develop into well-rounded young men and women who will leave here fully equipped for life beyond school.

“Staff know each and every pupil and relationships are consequently highly positive.” Ofsted

Our identity as a Roman Catholic school and our school’s distinctive Salesian ethos is based on St John Bosco’s vision that ‘it is not enough for every child to be loved… they must know that they are loved’. We provide strong pastoral support and a high level of care for every student, regardless of their background.  We are a community where everyone is highly valued as an individual.

“Pupils mix well in this harmonious environment and benefit from personalised support and guidance” Ofsted

Whilst we are justifiably proud of our school and of the achievements of the young people who have already studied here we are equally excited about the future and the potential of the young people joining our school to achieve great things in the years ahead.

“The school’s vision that ‘it is not enough for young people to be loved, they must know that they are loved’ permeates the school’s culture” Ofsted
