Job overview
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join Heywood Prep and Nursery in our Prep Department, where they will make a significant contribution to the work of the School by supporting pupils and teachers in a variety of settings and ways.
The primary role is to collaborate with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of our pupils, while also promoting their independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion. The successful candidate will assist pupils in accessing our broad and balanced curriculum, participating in learning, and experiencing a sense of achievement.
Contract: Permanent contract, term time, plus 5 weeks equivalent hours in Holiday Club
Hours: 8:15am - 12pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
Salary: £8,269.00 per annum
Start Date: Monday 6th January 2025

Job Description:
Responsible to: Head of Learning Enhancement
- Support pupils' development and promote independence within a safe, secure, and challenging environment, using strategies to recognise and reward self-reliance.
- Observe, record, and support the development and progress of pupils, identifying individual needs and providing feedback to them.
- Assist teachers with the daily/weekly programme of lessons, activities, and events.
- Support class teachers with administrative duties as required.
- Take responsibility for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to the review of systems and records as necessary.
- Follow and implement the school's established discipline policy to anticipate and manage pupil behaviour.
- Promote and uphold the policies and ethos of the school.
- Supervise pupils on outings and visits as required.
- Ensure awareness of and compliance with all school policies.
- Treat all pupil-related information as strictly confidential and comply with school policy and practice.
- Attend relevant courses and training sessions to update knowledge as required.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrates a genuine interest in and knowledge of working within KS1/KS2, coupled with a strong commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
- Possesses excellent organisational and communication skills, which are central to the role, along with the ability to take initiative, think creatively, and build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- Actively contributes as a proactive member of both the school and class teams.
- Has experience working with children in an educational setting and is ideally qualified to Level 2 or 3.
