Job overview
Vacancy: Volunteer Trustee
Contract: Voluntary
Start date: Asap
The Crompton House Church of England Multi Academy Trust seeks to recruit new board members, bringing a breadth of skills to help strengthen its overall governance arrangements. In particular, the Trust is currently seeking Trustees with one of the following key areas of expertise: HR, SEND, Estates or Branding/Marketing/Communications. Time commitment is around 4-5 hours per month.
The role of the non-executive director is to determine the overall strategic direction and development of the Trust; to approve and monitor the Trust’s strategic plan; to challenge and support the Trust’s CEO, senior staff and academy leaders to achieve the outcomes of the strategic plan and to oversee the performance of the Trust and its academies.
Crompton House Multi Academy Trust, established in 2019, currently comprises one secondary and three primary schools, all based in Oldham. The four academies have a strong and longstanding track record of providing high-quality education and support to children and schools across Nursery to Key Stage 5.
Plans
The key challenges for the board over the next 12-24 months are:
- To strengthen governance and ensure effective succession planning;
- To implement the Trust growth strategy with a focus on forging relationships with other schools
The trust seeks candidates who are willing, able and ready to contribute to the board’s work, ensuring trust success and performance through developing and monitoring trust strategy and actively holding management to account, for the benefit of academy students.
It is essential that candidates can undertake charitable trustee responsibilities as set out in charity legislation and comply with the seven key elements of the Nolan Principles.
Person specification
Every trustee is expected to abide by the trust’s code of conduct and the seven principles of public life set out by Lord Nolan: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to learning and education and the success of students, as well as the ability to maintain the highest standards of probity and integrity. An ability to put the trust’s interests above any other professional or personal interests and to work as part of a team are vital to all trustees. Trustees, or non-executive directors, are required to provide challenge and scrutiny in relation to the executive’s activity, so the ability to exhibit independence of thought and sound judgement are both vital.
As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within our schools, we encourage applications for trustee positions from individuals representing diverse backgrounds and experiences. We believe that diversity among trustees enriches our decision-making processes and ensures that the needs of all students are effectively addressed. Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other characteristic, we welcome all qualified candidates to contribute their unique perspectives and talents to our board.

Ofsted report
“The behaviour of students is outstanding. Students’ conduct is excellent, including during break time, at lunch time, during assemblies and tutorial sessions, as well as in lessons and between lessons. As a result, students are always punctual for lessons and no learning time is wasted because of lateness. Students’ attitudes to learning are excellent in nearly all areas of the curriculum.”
