Component 2 - BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice

Hi all,

Here are a set of resources I have created for Component 2 of the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice They are designed to give you an idea of how to tackle the course and also what an example portfolio may look like.

Due to Pearson guidance we are not allowed to give our students templates or tell them how to structure their portfolios. These resources will give you ideas, can be modified and start as a great jumping off point for your planning.

I am also a Music Technology specialist and have not seen any Music Technology exemplar material from Pearson. Again, this would help any students looking to work on a DAW and create a detailed production portfolio.

This pack includes: x6 Powerpoints in total. x3 skills audit lessons and x3 skills portfolio examples.

There are Skills Audit lesson ideas for composing, performing and producing. There is one Powerpoint per discipline, which ideas on skills to look at and ways to present.

Also, there are whole complete portfolio examples for performing, composing and producing. These include three skills for each and show how they have been developed through musical examples with diagrams. Please note, the performance portfolio does not feature any recordings. They do appear and are labeled as examples, yet there are not actually recordings of vocals as I am not a singer.

I will stress one last time that these are to be used as ideas, jumping off points and ways to kickstart your planning for component 2. I felt as there is little in the way of production information, this may be helpful to many.

Thanks for looking!

OCR GCSE Music - Writing a Pop Ballad - Ensemble composition unit B352 booklet/unit

The resource is essentially an all in one pupil booklet to guide the ensemble composition of a Pop Ballad. This will carry the controlled assessment from the first planning stages to full assessment of the completed recording. It is essentially a complete unit for the 10 hours of the controlled assessment. The booklet outlines the unit and with a series of small activities it supports and guides the pupil through the process. There is a homework task, tasks that can chart progress, lyric sheets and chord progression and key theory which is clearly explained. There is also detailed assessment at the end of the booklet with exam spec criteria and grade boundaries, with suggestions for improvement and extensions.

Everything is customisable and through using this resource this year I have seen better organisation and a better end result. The pupils really engage with this resource and it is a great way to show progress during those practical control assessments.

KS3 Music Unit - The Music of India Full Unit - SOW - PPT series - Assessment

Hello fellow teachers,

Contained in this resource pack is an entire five week unit on the Music of India that I have developed to create whole class and small group compositions using a timeline. The resource contains a series of five lesson plans, a full detailed SOW, assessment materials which can be adapted for homework tasks, assessment criteria using the new 1-9 level system and pupil handouts for the lessons showing the composition timeline and Raga notes.

I have taught this unit for six years now and it is great for increasing world music understanding, showing progress and shows a variety of AFL methods. The SOW, handouts and lessons can be adapted and personalised for your department. The initial run is five lessons although I have stretched this to last up to seven lessons. It also has scope for other instruments other than keyboards and percussion. Also, each PPT has the learning outcomes linked and highlighted on each slide.

Any feedback would be welcome. This is my first complete unit. Obviously through royalty reasons you will need to use your own Indian Music audio examples from CD sources or Youtube.

Thanks for looking/buying/rating!

Greetings fellow teachers,

Here is a quick Mindmap book that I have put together to help pupils revise for the listening exam. The template is set up and this was my first term one. You can add more categories each term to create weekly revision homework. I break these down by six weeks and a homework one. Also is a DR P SMITH activity to ensure pupils know the key elements and can remember them in the exam.

Free resource, download, rate, feedback is always appreciated.

Thanks!
