Aimed at Year 6. The first lesson in a series designed to compare Regions in the UK to Texas, USA.<br /> LI: I know what physical features make up the United Kingdom.<br /> Name and locate key topographical features of the UK (including hills, mountains, coasts and rivers).

Lessons 3 &amp; 4 based around the Empire Windrush. Explore how people traveled from the Caribbean to the UK after the end of WWII - how they were affected, treated and the lasting impact they had upon modern Britain.<br /> <br /> Lesson 3 - LI: I can identify reasons why immigration was necessary and compare the jobs people were leaving and coming to.<br /> Lesson 4 - I can empathise with the people who migrated into the UK

Lessons 2, 3, 4 &amp; 5 around Natural disasters. Covers the structure of volcanoes, how they are formed, why people would choose to live near them, earthquakes and the affect they have on people, and tsunamis and their human impact.

LI: I know what weather affects Texas<br /> Two weeks lessons in one.<br /> The children create their own weather forecasts and record each other on ipads using simple green-screen technology. Providing cross-curricular activity using computing skills to present their research.

5 weeks of resources where the children look at the physical features of the UK and Texas and build towards creating their own weather forecasts using a Green Screen app. Excellent way to assess their knowledge of physical features locally and in North America, as well as providing the cross-curricular opportunity of employing their computing and presentation skills.

LI: To create a word bank of vocabulary to use describe Texas<br /> In the build-up to write their own Texan weather reports, children will need to research the language used in forecasts, understand place names and the weather in vastly contrasting areas of the state.

A whole 1st week's resources introducing the children to The Other Side of Truth and looking at some key skills to develop their writing.

LI: I can identify the physical features of Texas<br /> Humanities<br /> Geography<br /> Linked to the core text of 'Holes' by Louis Sacher, children were comparing the physical features of the UK to those of Texas, USA

A whole 2nd week's resources around The Other Side of Truth and looking at some key skills to develop their knowledge of newspaper articles as well as learning to empathise with characters.

A whole week of lessons covering The Other Side of Truth. The children are writing their own chapter of the story, developing their own characters and peer assessing.

A lesson plan, presentation and resources around tectonic plates. A good introduction to natural disasters and leads into volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis in subsequent weeks.

A whole 3rd week's resources around The Other Side of Truth and looking at gathering key facts together, sequencing events and studying direct and indirect speech.

A whole week of lessons covering The Other Side of Truth. The children create story maps, retell stories orally and plan / box-up their writing for the next chapter of the story.

4 days of lesson plans with the focus on the children putting into practice the skills they have been studying over the last 3 weeks and creating their own newspaper reports.
