Persuasive Writing - Titanic (Hot Air Balloon Style Task)

(0)
A full lesson (or two) based on creating a persuasive argument. My students absolutely loved this lesson!

The theme of the lesson is Titanic. Students begin by analysing an advert for the Titanic and adding a persuasive sentence. Then, they are handed a luggage tag with a profile of an actual passenger from the Titanic. The '-' after the passenger name means that the real passenger died on the Titanic. They must write a persuasive argument in order to gain one of the last available lifeboat seats.

I then got them to peer assess in pairs and groups and nominate a winner from each group. These then presented to the class who used the peer assessment grid to identify who had managed to use the most techniques.

PowerPoint (including built in timers), advert, luggage tags and peer assessment grid included.
