Maths immediate recall facts (MIRFs) is a complete whole (primary) school program to improve pupils mental agility and use of mathematical knowledge linked directly to the 2014 national curriculum.
Using stages 1-6 (which can be linked directly to each year group, or used for children of other ages if they are either behind or in front of their peers in terms of knowledge and immediate recall of the key facts) of facts which pupils should be able to recall immediately (such as times tables, number bonds to 10 or 20, doubles and halves, square numbers and so on) MIRFs is an all-encompassing and easy to follow scheme.
Each stage is complete with facts children are required to learn, MIRF cards for pupils to keep and/or take home, six half-termly test transcripts, blank test answer sheets and testing guidelines.
The scheme has proved successful in preparing pupils not only for similar tests such as the proposed national testing of times tables, but also gives them greater confidence when approaching any mathematical task – due to the fact that knowing their MIRFs leaves them with one less aspect of mathematics to think (or worry) about!
