This full lesson PowerPoint (with suggested practical activities) will allow you to teach a broad range of abilities about aerobic respiration and how it compares and contrasts with the process of combustion. It introduces limewater and hydrogen carbonate indicator as tests for carbon dioxide. You’ll also need to download the FREE resource “8Ca Combustion and Respiration cut & stick” from my shop.
The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
This is one of several lessons that I offer for free so users can sample my work before deciding whether to pay for further resources. The other free lessons that I offer are detailed in the attached document “Year 8 Science lessons checklist”. If you find these lessons useful, please leave constructive reviews and take a look at the many discounted bundles that I offer across KS3 and KS4.

Well structured lesson
A clearly presented lesson that was easy to deliver with minimal preparation. The only thing we had to fiddle around with was the hydrogen carbonate indicator (I had not used this before) but our technicians quickly had it working thanks to the guidance in your equipment list. The lesson drew interesting parallels between respiration and combustion which forced my class to link ideas from different disciplines in a very organic fashion. I did not have ready access to the oximetry sheet but the activities that you provided offered more than enough stretch and challenge for my students. Thanks for sharing for free.
