This is a mixture of resources: powerpoints on atomic structure (lessons) and ionic bonding along with a word file showing pictures of atoms for the activities and a word document that explains what was done in the different lessons.
In short, I have had to teach atomic structure to students of different abilities and different ages and in all cases using chocolate digestive atoms, icing sugar (shells) and chocolate drops (electrons) has helped students understand atomic structure. The biscuits are especially useful for low ability and younger KS3 students. For high ability year 9 students I also extended this task to ionic bonding and got the students making their chocolate biscuit atom, understanding how many electrons they needed to lose or gain for a full outer shell. The students then needed to go speed dating to find an atom or ion that would satisfy their needs and then create an ionic compound.
Read the word document entitled chocolate biscuit lessons for full details.
