Print onto thin card, provide split pins (one per atom), glue, scissors and coloured pens / pencils. Students make models of the first 5 elements - great fun for lower ability groups and reinforces the names, charges and relative positions of each subatomic particle.

I love this idea which really saved me when I needed to cover a foundation year 9 set this morning. However I have to say the students found it very hard - as did I. Cutting out the circles is very difficult and the nuclei of the bigger elements are too small for the protons and neutrons. But this is a great idea which I think could be modified to make it a bit easier. Thank you for sharing and I hope my feedback is useful!
