This lesson was originally intended for students in year 11 who had previously been taught the poems Checking Out Me History by John Agard and London by William Blake, in year 10, and are now re-learning/revising them comparatively. However, this lesson could also be used with high-ability students for first exposure to both poems.
Benefit to teacher:
- Comparative model paragraph comparing the use of structure in both poems.
- A pack of key analytical questions for each poem to allow students to independently annotate/revise.
- Essay plan with thematic comparative thesis statements.
- Includes writing frame for low-ability students.
