In pairs students are asked to complete the blank card sort sheet with as many different crimes as they can think of (one per card). They then cut these out and are given the headings of civil and criminal law from the second card sort and asked to categorise their crimes under the two headings. As students finish and are prompted to correct any mistakes, the prepared cards are handed out to further challenge their thinking. This leads to paired discussion and class discussion and can lead onto one of the various types of crime activities: white collar, state, street crime etc. Designed for the Level 2 Ascentis Criminology element of Unit 1: Crime and Deviance but also suitable for citizenship or law.
