This is a great unit to teach because contemporary issues in the news can be easily incorporated into lessons. It generates great debates. For some student who lack motivation, this could be just the unit that engages them.
This resource suggests what can be done in lesson 1. It provides some interesting questions for students to look at.
As a follow up, I would suggest use my Power Point “Introduction to Unit 7” also on TES.
Possible student trips for this unit : The Francis Crick Institute, the Sanger Centre, The Science Museum.
In class have a selection of journals and magazines, such as BBC Focus. They can provide great examples of contemporary issues in science.
