These KS2 Resources for ‘In Her Element’, a powerful story told through the eyes of a girl with cerebral palsy, are created by expert educators to make the most of the rich content offered in this book.

‘In Her Element’, selected as part of the Read of Empathy 2022 collection, is written by Coram Boy author Jamila Gavin and illustrated by Jacinta Read. The book is part of the 10 Stories to Make a Difference collection, published by Pop Up Projects to reflect the need for greater inclusivity and diversity in children’s books. All our resources have been designed to improve the access to, confidence in and enjoyment of reading, creative writing, illustration and visual literacy. They can be used to support the national curriculum, and cover a wide range of subjects including PSHE, Science, History, Art and Design as well as Literacy and English. They also help teachers support pupils’ wellbeing and their learning about topics including disability, activism, multiculturalism, LGBTQIA+ community as well as women in the STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics] industry.

The resources provide creative, fun activities and prompts for KS2 teachers creating lesson plans. All the materials can be adapted to suit the needs, interests and abilities of individual classes.
