This is a highly differentiated lesson, ideal for an observation, in which students plan and build up a description of an image. Starting by expanding vocabulary, the lesson moves on to developing sentence forms and figurative language.

Students should be split into three groups based on ability. Each group has a different image to focus on, and a different set of success criteria to go with this.

The lesson was originally aimed at a high ability year 7 class, but has since been very useful in developing descriptive writing across a range of year groups.
