Shaun Tan’s evocative picture book ‘Dog’ (also part of ‘Tales of the Inner City’) tells the almost universal story of humankind’s relationship with dogs and is sure to have a similarly powerful connection for your students. This four-page worksheet helps students analyse the language and visual techniques Shaun Tan uses to explore his ideas. The worksheet is both technical and conceptual in nature, with reference to specific techniques like pronouns or vectors, as well as discussion of aspects like the non-linear narrative, ideas of change and continuity or the universality of the narrative.

Included in both Word and pdf formats, this worksheet is ideal for a high school audience, challenging students to think deeply and look closely at the text.
