This lesson uses an extract from Cormac McCarthy’s The Road which can be printed off from slides 3 and 4.
On slide 2 there are skills descriptors from the mark scheme which present the students with an opportunity to familiarise with in order to set targets.
The lesson is pretty much self explanatory and ends with practice of an exam style question.

Make sure that students understand the question on slide 6. Ask: what do we need to do?
Make sure they refer back to the student’s statement;

I agree with what the student says with regards to the narrator’s feeling of hopelessness.
